Public and private join against piracy
Representatives from governments and businesses met in Dubai on 18 and 19 April. They discussed ways of better joining forces against the pirates operating off the Somali coast. The conference was organised by the UAE Foreign Minister together with DP World. Commander Heimans (Royal Dutch Navy), commanding the NATO task force patrolling the pirate infested areas, participated in one of the panels. To combat the root causes of piracy several countries pledged funds to the UN fund for Somalia. The Dutch delegation led by Director for Security Policy, Mr Henk Swarttouw, matched the UAE pledge of USD 1.4 mln
